You have an idea, a dream and not sure what really to do? Here are a few tips to help you get started with your new business or to revamp your current business.

1. Understanding a Small Business

Owning a small business, takes a great deal of dedication as well as determination to make it work.There will be days of great joy and achievement and there will be days that you think to yourself, why am I doing this. Those that succeed are those that can push through the hard days and appreciate the good days. Even after years of being in business myself I still have the days when I think, “Getting a 9-5 would just be easier”. You have to ensure you have the time, commentment and energy to manage, run and succeed with your small business.

2. Determine What Your Business Will Be

Look around your day to day life and see if there is a program that people like you face and you have a great solution to help them, or find something that you are passionate about. If your business idea is something that is already out there, determine what you could do to make it different. Say you want to sell cookies, what would make your cookies different and make other people buy them.

4. Find your Niche or Customer Base

Who is going to purchase your product or services? Determining this can really assist in the success of your business. You do not want to create a brand or an image for customers that are 50 + men when your client base is 30′s something moms. This will also help you in determining who to work with as well to help your business grow. When starting out most small business’ are on a tight budget and every penny counts and you don’t want to spend it wastefully.

5. Focus on Your Sales

You can get lost in the planning of the business and also in making sure every detail is right. Find people that can help you with the other stuff and focus 90% of your time on your sales. No one can sell your product like you can, with the passion you have for what you do selling is a breeze but you have to get out there and do it!

6. Keep Costs Down!

Find ways to keep costs down, after you have written your business plan you will have a good idea about what you need to get your business going. Sit down and determine which items are the most important, review your budget and assign a rough budget for each item. If you need an online store, you will want to make sure that you have a professional image so you will want set more money aside for your site. If you are going to have a store front then more money should be applied to those needs. You can do things in stages and you don’t need to do everything at once to open your doors!

7. Pricing

Ensure that you know what type of costs you have involved in your business and that you are making a profit. You DON’T need to give everything away to get your name out there!

8. Keep Going!

No matter what happens, don’t loose faith in what you are trying to do. Great rewards do not come to those who sit and wait for them to fall from the sky. Every successful person will tell you that there is some point in your business when you will think it will never happen but keeping going and you will be rewarded for your efforts!
